Anyone leaving Belfast in the late afternoon, anytime from 3pm+ that wouldn't mind giving a lift?

I'm in work until 2pm sadly.

Sorry Bud, I can't help out.  I'm either leaving from Portadown or Killyleagh at about 12:00.  Hopefully somebody will be able to offer a lift... Would be great to have you along.

Fun idea, and quite an interesting spot.

Personally, I would have made you each throw a dart to pick your own bivvy, so there are like 10 separate bivvies all over the Mournes, then everyone compares reports  :P

I thought that by saying i couldn't make it then i wouldn't jinx my chances of getting out, but i have an early start sun morning that i'd forgotten about so no overnighter for me, and the chance of me popping up in the evening for a quick dander are also looking slim, but still text me the co-ords just in case  :)

The only PD available was a PD400 with a right zip. So rather than buy a bag which is probably a touch too light, with a zip I'd struggle with, I went for the skyehigh range.

Got the skyehigh 800: http://www.alpkit.com/shop/cart.php?target=product&product_id=16321&category_id=286

It's only ever so slightly lighter than my current synthetic, and won't pack down as well as the pipedreams would, but it's 5 degrees warmer than my snugpak (and that's if the snugpak was truly a -5 bag, which I never felt it was)

It's also got a stronger water repellency than the PD fabric, which I might find useful when bivvying with the hunka.

Roomier cut, which for now is good for me, as I find it tough to get a good nights sleep wrapped up too tight however warm I am.

There's always a PD600 this summer when they come in for curiosity's sake, but I reckon this bag will do very well.

It'll get a baptism by fire on Saturday night.

My buddy has the skyehigh 800 and I have to say I have coveted the inner fabric compared to my Pipedream. It has that insta warm feel to it. It lofts really well and generally seems an excellent bag.

What's the difference with the inner lining between the Skyhigh and Pipedream?

Have to say, I've had a PD600 since Oct 2009 and it's still hard to fault. I've not been impressed with some of Alpkit's gear (mats and headtorch) but he bag seems bulletproof.

whats the situation re a fire on sat night? I know we are all bringing firelogs, but will we be cutting a sod to put the fire in, or are there rocks etc that we could set them on? Just to minimise the impact etc?

It just feels different to the Pipedream, almost a cottony feel. Don't get me wrong I love my Pipedream and its lighter and packs smaller.

Tactel Nylon 300L in the skyehigh:

http://www.invista.com/en/brands/tactel.html

Whereas the pipedream uses the same slick-feel Toray on the inside as the outside.

There's a weight difference, for sure, so the comfort for the night comes at the cost of a bit more of a slog on the trail.

Eventually I'd like to have both so I could make my mind up before the trip whether weight and pack size are most important, or if I'm happy to carry that wee bit more for a roomier bag and a more relaxed nights sleep. For some people I'm sure, the SH would make no difference at all, I'm not a long-time camper though as you know, so that little touch more comfort is good for now.
