I've been around there recently, lets hope there's a good frost to freeze the water  ;D  couple of nice spots on the summit i have earmarked, are we allowed to deviate a little? (of course i WILL NOT be there under ANY circumstances)

I defo don't think the spot is cast in stone, it's just the area we're thinking of. If everyone's not travelling together I think it makes sense to make the spot somewhere that people can find in the dark. We could start at Rockyriver Bridge, contour Hen and camp on the summit of Cock.

I'am planning on been up there for lunch-time,there is at least one good spot along the Hen trek just below our  chosen spot,& i've seen DOE groups using it before,i do like the idea of camping on the summit of ( rooster)  ;D but its very exposed to high winds, anyway I'll go with what ever the group thinks, going to my first Bivvy in about 15 years  :o

I'm defo happy to defer to anyone with experience of the area, I've only been up there once and I don't remember much. Do you have a grid ref for the spot you saw the DoE types at?

If you get the chance, try and see what the exact spot the dart landed is like. May as well camp there if we can and it shouldn't be too hectic to get too as we can follow the river.

I'd love to try and camp where the Dart has told us too, within reason... All part of the adventure!  Looking at the map the camp site seems to be right at the top of a tributary which would suggest higher ground and hopefully not too much bog.  It will also provide an excellent source for water.

Redleader and I are hoping to head up early enough on Saturday, with plenty of daylight to spare, so we can scout the area, and if it's not suitable for tents etc then we can always find somewhere that is, with the ultimate goal of not straying more than about 200 yrds from the Dart location.

If we do decide to move camp site we will make sure the new co-ordinates are posted on the forum and anybody that's intending to go should pm their mobile number to Redleader, or myself, if we don't already have it.  If the location is moved slightly we can arrange some sort of a visual guide (Fire/Torch/Bat Signal) for those coming up in the dark.

An NI-Wild Bat Signal. I like it!

Get it done lads, looking forward to hearing how this goes.  Hoist up the jolly rodger, I'm sure this qualifies under the forum's designated days policy.

Anyone leaving Belfast in the late afternoon, anytime from 3pm+ that wouldn't mind giving a lift?

I'm in work until 2pm sadly.

Unfortunately we're hoping to be setting out to walk at 1pm, unless you can creep away early.

Plan is to park at the car park at the Rocky River Bridge and walk the Mourne Way to meet the river, then follow the river to the co-ords (J 25254 26042). We'll make sure there's a suitable spot to camp and then TXT everyone the exact co-ords, then maybe go for a bit of an explore. Anyone coming please PM me their mobile numbers if you want me to txt you the spot. In the unlikely event that we can't find a suitable spot we'll txt an alternative. If everyone defo going could reply just so we know who to expect.

If everyone throws in a firelog there should be plenty to keep us toasty!
