That would be a great trip perfect for the open canoe. As far as I kno there will be no whitewater but the lough can be very xposed to the eliments. How long do you think it will take you? If your planning on a mid week trip I'll be up for it.

depending on the journey time, i would say camping would be on the lough shore if you are going west maybe coney Island, Roskeen Point or the Rock. But it all depends on how many miles travelled and what direction you go when you hit the lough. Kinnigo has a camp site if you are going east around the lough

I live in Portadown mate, and as far as i know the water is pretty easy going right up to Lough Neagh. Plenty of camp spots its all fields and wooded areas.

we did that run in sit on top kayaks, took a couple of days at a leisurly pace (the way i like it)

lough beg can be a windy spot, fortunatly the wind was behind me and i just put up my sail  :)

i certainly wouldnt want to do lough neigh on an open canoe in any kind of wind.

why not start where we did and launch at toome. with the wind behind you id say you could do it in three days on a canadian in calm conditions.

dont forget about the lockgates though, you need a ticket to get through em and they close in the late afternoon which might bring your days paddling to an unexpected halt.

its a lovely paddle, but dont wait till dark to find a camping spot- there arnt that many suitable spots.

:) Go to CANI and look at the canoe trails. We are the only country in Europe I think to have them yet. They give you loads of information about the officially recognised trails, i.e. Strangford, Blackwater, Lough Erne etc, where to camp locks, shops phones help etc.

Great resources for planning trips out.
