OMM Villian Rucksack Bargain
« on: March 18, 2010 »

This ebay seller is selling a OMM Villan 45 + 10 RL Rucksack Mountain Rucksack for £49.95 + £7.50 delivery.

It reviews well (and 666_pack has one and rates it highly). I've ordered one as a 1050g replacement for my 2200g Vango contraption.

What's the beef with the back support? Is it a folding sleep mat that makes the back rigid and if so, is it comfy to sleep on?

I've the 35ltr jiri OMM it has the back rest also, but i would only use it saving weight was your main priority cause there s not much to it. It just really keeps the cold off your back.

But does it not spread the weight to your hips so you don't have to carry the bag totally on your shoulders?

That is a good price!  Seems like a really good pack, not a bad way to shift over a kilo of weight for the sake of 10 litres.

Regarding the back support - I thought it came with a back support that could be removed and replaced with the Duo Mat which is the sleeping mat?

no mate the back support is removable  foam sheet whick has light weight aluminiun reinforcment (OMM platform i think its called).

The dou mat comes with the smaller packs. it would be a rough night on one but i works well under a self inflate to boost insulation.

So do you use it with or without the foam sheet and how comfy is it without?

it might require something a bit more substantial than the walk from the carpark to donard wood for it to be classed as a fair test  ;)
