Route to Spinkwee Campsite from the Mourne Wall?

Hi Guys,

I'm doing a 2 day trek around the wall route in a few weeks and I'm wondering is there a set path / route down from the wall itself to the Spinkwee campsite?

Or is it just a scramble down in its general direction?

Not that I know of, but you could also consider camping in the Pot of Legawherry which should be well sheltered. Worth noting the midgeys are appearing now, might be worth camping high up.

I thought the midges were not going to appear until mid may or so, if they are going to be around then we'll stay higher up.

I think the Spinkwee camp spot is quite far from the Mourne Wall. There's probably more convenient spots unless you really want to camp at Spinkwee.

Should!  But I got two bent poles up there on Saturday night.  Cracking wee spot though.  If you were walking the Mourne Wall it would be tight to get down into the Pot, especially in bad weather?  Bing Maps' Bird's Eye view is excellent for planning.

Is there any fuel for a fire available in the pot? If not are there any other spots along the route where a fire would be a viable option? If we are not camping high that is.

There was talk of Folfanny reservoir but that may be too early in the trip (starting from Carricklittle heading west), what do you guys think?

if you camp at fofanny, there is was a LOT of rubbish in the best camp spots, there were a couple of places up towards the reservoir itself, right on the edge of the water that looked less spoilt ( about 6/10 feet away from the path through fofanny) too many drinkers up there in general, broken bottles and such

Hares gap, sort of right distance to stop and at a height of I think 400 odd metres possibly no midges but i wouldn't be confident on that.

Is there any chance of a fire up Hares Gap or is it just a good spot for a high camp?

Don't fancy sharing our camp with the local drinkers, might give Folfanny a miss.

If you wanted any sort of fire at Hares you'd need to carry up fuel, no trees for miles. There is the remains of a demolished stone hut within spotting distance of the gate on the Bearnagh side. It would provide a bit of shelter. Just watch out for the noise of the creaking of the gate in the night, scared the willies out of me when I soloed up there once  8)

No hoods up that far I'd say anyway, and yeah you would have to carry a firelog or two for a fire.
