This is the current forecast for Sat. There's a bit of a window of dry weather between Sat and Sunday which looks lucky! Still going to be cold with the potential for wet. Wrap up warm folks and prepare for cold and wet!

Hi Steve,

It would be great to have you along.  As Redleader has already said, our forest camps are usually family friendly and there will be other kids coming along to this one, including my own daughter who's 12.

I am a big advocate of getting the kids involved in the outdoors and it's brilliant life experience for them.  My wee fella was 4 when I first took him up Binnian for an overnight bivvy on one of the roughest nights I can remember.

If your well prepared there should be no problem and always prepare for the worst.  Plenty of warm clothes, a good bed set-up, a good sleeping bag for the wee one and plenty of tasty snacks and all will be well.

Here's a short thread showing Mini Dowser bivvying indoors and out: http://www.ni-wild.co.uk/forum/general-chat/mini-dowser-has-the-bivvy-bug/msg12784/#msg12784

Hopefully see you on Saturday

Hi,
New to the forum but spent fair amount of time in hammocks including winter camps.
Wife and I spent a week this summer with a child in each hammock.
Was thinking of bringing my 3 year old along to this.
Is it child friendly?
What is the parking like (safe) as may bring the van as a back up?
Thanks
Steve

The micro wouldn't be big enough. I'll find out what bro is doing and let you know. He was talking about testing his new tent in which case I have a spare DD. Has a few small burn holes but will be fine ;)

Ok guys and gals I know we are all serious athletes here and that we are all well into our new year training programmes for all our various events this year like The Mourne wall wander, the Donard dander, the Cove crawl and the Lamagan limp and not forgeting our endurance events like the Seven shandys, The Annalong all nighter and the Sleeping on bumpy ground which all sound easy enough, but not forgetting our ultra endurance event of making your final beer at camp last at least an hour.
Now I know we are all watching calories because of this but a treat once in a will do us no harm so im thinking of bringing a wee bit of desert so do we have any idea of numbers as I would hate to bring any extra fig rolls, cause we all know its all about the weight ;D ;D ::)

Numbers wise it's looking like Me and Aimée, Redleader + 1, Stepstew, Matt and Kelly, Steviemuv + 1 and Shamara.  So including you and a your wee fella I make that  twelve for now.

I reckon there's about 14 fig rolls in a packet so one pack should do and we can arm wrestle, or something, to see who gets the two spares  :D

The Ham Hocks have been selected today... I just need to decide on a recipe:

Looks good! Don't think we want to be eating just too many fig rolls before we climb into our hammocks anyway ;)

What are we serving with the Ham Hocks?

I haven't quite decided yet as I've been up to my eyes with work but the plan is a one pot meal, like a casserole, for everybody to share.

I'm thinking along the lines of baby potatoes, sautéed onions, chestnut mushrooms, puy lentils and garlic/herbs in a light red wine sauce, but I haven't totally finalised it yet.

I got three Ham Hocks as I am considering two for the casserole and one to be roasted.

A bag of crusty rolls wouldn't go a miss too for mopping up the juices  ;)
