Just reserved, Pro Action Hike Lite 1 Person Tent, at Argos. Pick it up tomoro 666_pack so it will not be long mate.

I feel like an NI WILD Tramper now.  8)

Now to to look for a good sleeping bag, as i dont want to near freeze to death like you all near did at the weekend  :)  or was it just billybackpack  ;D

I can use the extra money, i was going to get the hilleberg soulo with to get a real good sleeping bag, just where to start as i want one that is warm even in the dead of winter and can dry easy if it gets wet. It would be nice to get it light and to pack down well, maybe asking to much.

As for a back pack, i like the look of the sabre 75 or 45 lite. I like it cause it looks like it can take abuse, i dont mine that it will be a little heavyer, as all the lightweight packs or normal packs ive seen to date look like they would not take much abuse.

lol how much "abuse" are you planning on giving this pack of yours then!?

Fair enough mate. if thats the case tho and you do intend to trash your kit you'd prob be better of gettin a surplus bergan, pretty much excatly the same as that sabre backpack but prob a bit tougher. Has all the same features as the sabre for less wonga. Plus Ray mears has one.

Happy days chris, the surplus bergan is last money ?

Im cant seem to find a 45 lite in black, do you have any info on this chris ?

Would a 45 lite be the right size for a tent sleeping bag and some water poofs and cooking things ??

you can have an ex army surplus bag in olive green or dpm, just look up army surplus on google and have a surf around for the best deal. i dont know what size of bag you need wolf, i can get away with a sub 20lt bag for a few days in the hills, others i know can barley fit everything into 60-80lt bags its all down to you.... the kit you own, what you decide to do without, even the amount of experience you have in packing a bag will affect the size you need. I started of using 80 and 100lt bags when I was 14 -15 now i've got it pretty much sussed.

What are the army surplus bags made of and what's their weight?

The 50+10 I got for Bernagh seems just about right for me for a light weekend. It's probably just too small so I can't bring stuff I don't need.

im not sure of material or weight. Lets just say they are pretty much indestructible, you can pretty much set them on , trust me! (i used to hand them out to 13yr olds to go play army with for 2-3 days at a time and I never lost one!) although they are prob not gonna be 1st choice for an uber lightweight hike around the mournes!

Cheers chirs, if all you bring is a sleeping bag, tent, roll mat, axe, fishing rod, would a 45lite do it ?

Again mate its hard to tell, thats like saying if I go shopping will one carrier bag be enough? what are you buying, how much of it, how bigs your bag etc? Litre measurement in bags is confusing as space is counted in extra pockets and the lid all of these prob wont hold any of that kit.  i dont know how big your sleeping bag is, roll mats usually just get tucked under the lid, does it have some where you can strap an axe? does your fishing rod fold down? where are you going with this? do you not need a water bottle, some food, spare clothes etc
Im sorry if your getting pissed off with all these vague answers but your questions are really hard to answer. At the min as i said i'm using a 22 litre bag, but i reckon for you a 45 litre bag will be tight.
