devastation at fofanny
« on: August 26, 2013 »

Ahoy there folks,

New to this forum but I have been stalking for quite some time!

Ive just returned from a cyling/camping trip from portadown to fofanny - Brilliant craic.

Arrived at fofanny on saturday night thourougly exhausted and looking forward to a bit of food and crawling into the bivi.

Much to my disappointment the place was in an awful state. Not only where the numerous firepits piled high with rubbish but also the surrounding forest could have easily been mistaken for a landfill site.

I know places like fofanny are usually a bit scruffy but honestly I have never seen it this bad. Generally I always try to leave with more waste than I create but what I did manage to stuff in to my pannier bags barely made a dent.

Has anyone noticed similar problems in the mournes this year?

I've noticed similar problems at other camp sites, usually the amount of rubbish has been directly proportionate to the ease of access.

I reckon the good summer has drawn more fair weather campers out who don't have the same regard as the regular ones when it comes to keeping things tidy.
