Hi guys, I haven't been on here for a while but I will be doing more videos soon. Firstly I would like to say thank you for all your support so far, also I have recently started prepping so I was wondering if there are any preppers on this site.

I suppose it depends what you mean by "Prepping"? What you prepping for? Some would say anybody who carries a spare of something is a prepper, or are you more World War Z prepping?

Looking at the number of views I'd say, you and me bud, but I'm not making vids, tend to watch them though. Especially the UK and Ireland guys cause they do more product reviews than Zombies Invasion or TEOTWAWKI...

Some good stuff and kit.

Maybe peeps here don't know the term prepper, must admit I didn't really until I saw the National Geographic "Doomsday Preppers" programme.

I wouldn't have known what it was other than having watched that series too. best about it is, having seen the prepping shows, it started me watching shows like "the walking dead", "survivors" (the brit one where the flu was the pandemic) and shows like that.

I'd say (and I include myself in this) that whilst most people on the site wouldn't call themselves "preppers" they're into some of the ingredients of prepping: hiking, climbing, bushcraft, camping, self-defence, shooting etc.

Use all the stuff people are into to improve your Prepping overall: for example go climbing with climbers, hiking with hikers etc.

If you pick up bits and pieces from all those rich sources on the site your prepping will improve no end!

Anyone who prepares have a bit of prepper in them, if you have stuff in your car for an emergency especially during the snow your are prepping! Isn't the Scouts (not a scout) motto 'be prepared' and learn lots of bushcraft skills.

I think anyone is sensible is prepping - who would go into the mountains or even a day hike with no gear? Just different levels!

Have to kind of chime here on the cynic side. I happily keep certain gear in the car for possible emergencies. You only need look at the snow this year and how many folks sat in cars on high roads for 12 hours in sub zero temps to realise it's common sense, by this I only mean the general good sense things like jump leads and basic car kit, then a small sleeping bag along with simple stuff like a hexamine cookers and hot choc etc.

There is also a basic medical kit and depending on what I am doing there may be a bushcraft belt kit too. In the western world, especially the UK you are seldom more than a few miles walk at worst from a farm house or village. Lugging round gear to last 4 days in the outback just doesn't make sense when you burn fuel all the time in the car carrying it.

Now to go the full hog and prep for end of the world things I think is odd, this comes down to the cause of the end of the world which I'd say falls into two real methods I can see.

1. Nuclear war/Mass climate shift/Massive meteor strike:
Any of these things result in a world that resembles any films like The Road/Book of Eli/Mad Max/Other barran wastland or frozen land film. To be honest in that situation most of that fancy equipment you spent hundred or thousands on will find itself in a world without resources for repair parts and so quickly end up less than useless (guns is great until you run out of bullets).

Couple this with the real fact that such a disaster would easily remove at least two thirds of the population in the initial strike. So unless you own or have access to a bunker then chances you won't see out the first couple of weeks. What remains will be a world where really only those with very good primitive survival skills will thrive. Sorry but how many folks in the world can honestly say "yes I can walk out barefoot with just shorts into the wild and make a life"?

2.End of the world through alien attack/zombie plague.

I'm really not sure how to take this as a serious thing, but had to pick myself up after laughing that folk genuinely plan for this. I can only answer with two statements.

A.You really think a species that can travel light years through space in less than it's own lifetime is going to be threatened by G.I joe and his collection of .44's?

?

B.You really think the dead are going to come back to life and eat brains?

?

I have to find it laughable that these are issues folks really believe in after watching too much telly.

For me the worst prepping disaster is to find I forgot my binoculars and now don't get a good look at a buzzard nest.

To be fair when preppers or survivalists talk about zombies it's generally not the flesh eating undead kind. It is normally a reference to how they perceive others will react after whatever event they feel may happen, slightly derogatory... Along the lines of sheeple.

Except with any worldwide total disaster the sheeple will all be dead at month 1, for the simple fact there will be no food production going on to sustain such large populations. You then still have the same result, for 90% of those remaining they will all be dead around a month after their own personal food stores run dry.

The truth of all real "survival" stuff is that very few of us have the knowledge and skill base to really make it when you take away any and all gear. My main issue is that unless the sensible preppers are clouded under the shadow of the stereotypical ones, then most of the folks into that way of life stock up on rubbish. Most of it all is ironically capitalist money making from merchandising anything "survivalist" or "tactical" off the back of various tv shows/movies for that way of life.

When/if the world does push up the daisies as we know it, I'd wager the real survivors are the folk who spent their days playing with flint knapping and making nettle cordage etc as they have developed a mindset to be adaptable to their surrounding materials. It's the old adage of "carrying fire in your mind and muscle" Fortunately all the people who practice those ancient skills seem to do so just for the joy of it and not out of some deep seated fear in things out of their control.

Pah!

Check out some of the UK based prepping forums ( I say this because its easier to see than the US ones ) and you'll see how wrong your assertions about the merchandise and them only doing 'ancient skills' because they are scared and not that they enjoy the activities are, yes there are gear freaks and people who learn stuff because they think they should but they are a minority. A TV show wouldn't be very interesting following someone buying BOGOF's in tesco or pottering around their allotment.

Zombie apocalypse is a real threat and should be taken seriously.
Anyone who hasn't trained sufficiently with an undead simulator (I recommend Left4Dead on Xbox) is not going to make it.
