Not sure what to make of this, not that it actually relates to me but still.

I think some pervy men are using pathetic excuses and pedantic arguments just to get women to hike in the least amount of clothes possible and I am all for it.

:p

Really though? I didn't think a small wire like that would affect it much. What about watches, phones, knives, keys, necklaces, and every other bit of metal in your backpack? I have heard of these things affecting by anywhere up to 10degrees but reverse polarity would be very unfortunate.

Oh well, something to bear in mind. Nice find.

Depends how much wire is in the bra KyleL  ;)

I think there could be something in it.  This happened to a friend a few weeks ago, she thought the compass was broken.
Maybe it wasnt a new compass she should have purchased  ;D

What a load of prissshhhhhhh

How much wire do you think there is in a bra?     Depends on the size of scaffold needed I suppose.

Made me chuckle, the Scottish sun looks like a good read

Scaffold, ha! :P

The reason is surprises me is that the magnetic compasses on small aircraft are affected minimally and they sit on top of a great big engine, as well as on GPS equipment etc. As long as you aren't relying on the kind of compass you get in a Corn Flakes box I would hope you would be fine.

I agree with the article and I've read the same thing in many navigation books. When using a compass you're suppose to hold it close to the body for support so the bra wire could effect it then but I've had no experience of this so maybe some of female members could experiment with holding the compass away then close to the body while wearing a wired bra and see if the compass needle moves? :)

Ah, I was unaware that the drill was to hold the compass against yourself - in that case, maybe it could have a major effect.
