When I was in the Scouts it was shorts all year round (and it was a few years after 63). Shorts make more sense when you're exercising in all but the worst weather.

Something very not 1963 about that clip ,
Scouts? They all look about 20 somethings ,
As for shorts all round the only time that was mentioned
was when the leaders sneeked off to pub during weekend camps! Lol ;)

blizzard! looked like a lovely calm day to me  :)  and yer lad was so hard he had to have someone help put is rucksack on! (actually i think the straps back then were a lot harder to adjust quickly).

I have to say I bought a copy of Scouting for Boys by Baden-Powell.... it's a brilliant read if anyone hasn't read it

I've never read it, only ever watched the Ian Hislop documentary about it on BBC4, took a look online and found it here: http://goo.gl/oCQ6V

'A Handbook for Instruction in Good Citizenship Through Woodcraft' that's a brilliant title.
