Well the bad news!weighting over 6 stone with a hissing noise,it was totally unsafe to think off carrying this keg down the mountain,if i let it go it would surly kill  someone  :P
so change of plans

i started talking to a chap on the summit & it appears he's Liam's uncle, very proud ;D anyway we discussed the beer keg & he also thought it was unsafe to remove it,without a team of men & a rope to secure it anyway the summit was covered in broken glass so we spent a while lifting asmuch glass as we could

The only way to get the beer keg down is to drink it till it's empty and then carry it down.
When I worked in the pub it was a nightmare trying to change one. If you know anybody in the pub who might lend you the apparatus to open it you could drain the beer out. If it is hissing it means that someone has tried to open it.

So you met Eamon then  :)  he does Donard at least once a week (yes he's had to cut back now he's a pensioner!) Never bothers with a map or compass, goes up in the snow without even a pair of gloves, he's a hardy type, they don't make them like they used too! Not like you and your girls John >:(  wearing gaiters up the nice new path when others are in shorts  ;D

If they got it up, it certainly can come down.

One long piece of wood, tie the thing to it, and carry it down like a pig that needs to be roasted.  On the shoulder of two people, one in front, and one behind.

Job done.

National trust owning Donard? ???Most of the inner Mournes are privately owned & leased to tenant sheep farmer, other agencies are also involved,MHT,Water board,as far as I know th NT have some of Donard forest & some lands around Bloody bridge, here's the thing you'll find," no one will own it when you ask them for help, they will all point the finger at each other" on a brighter note as was chatting to the MHT yesterday near the Ice house & there's plans to start plant native Irish tree's within & bordering the existing pine forest

I believe they own most of Donard (including the summit) and some of Commedagh, the water board own everything inside the wall, and the rest is owned by farmers in some sort of trustee thing.
