Stones Discovered on a Binnian Peak
« on: July 01, 2012 »

Last year I was walking round Binnian and discovered some strange pebbles on one of it's lesser peaks. There were around 2kg's worth of what looked like well worn river pebbles. They were sitting on a bed of granite chippings/sand and they were within a well worn rock, that's weathered to form a natural bucket form. I had a look around for other rocks of the same form, but could see nothing. All the other rocks around the area were the normal un-weathered granite. I've never seen these types of rocks in this area before and wondering if anyone has any ideas how they got here?

2 theories I can see;
1. Have been deposited here by natural forces- but if so they must have been here for a long time, and strange why none of the other rock formations nearby hold any.

2. Someone had deposited them here - but 2kg is a hefty weight to be wandering round with, and if they did deposit them who / why would they have done it?
