Hello from bangor
« on: March 10, 2012 »

Was looking for somewhere to take kids tomorrow and re-discovered this forum. I forgot i had registered last year but never posted anything!

Have 4 young kids and outdoor loving wife so we spend plenty of time in the great outdoors. We love to canoe, especially if it means packing the boats with our camping gear for the weekend. Kids are big enough now for hiking and camping in the mournes and we got a couple of trips in last summer. Our new hobby is recreational tree climbing, we are still novices but it makes a walk in the woods a lot more exciting.

Will attempt to add some photos

Ps.  Check out dowsers post of his igloo back in dec 10. The squatters were my son and I!

Hi noble98
i just joined up my self.  I hope to do these things with my daughter but she is only two at the moment.
Gives me plenty of time to get some experience before taking her into the hills.  Most of my experience canoeing and hiking is from my teenage years, then i sat behind a desk since then unfortunately  ;D

We have been paddling with the kids since they were big enough to fit a bouyancy aid. In fact paddling with kids is easier than walking cos they get to sit there with very little effort just dipping their hands in the water. We used to have to tether their dummy to their coats to stop it falling in the water.

When i get on my pc i will post some photos of the wee guys

That looks like great fun. When you said recreational tree climbing I hadn't realised that you had that sort of set up. Does anyone ever try and stop you or do you just set up off the beaten track?
