Any Heating/Building Type Folks on Here...?
« on: December 28, 2011 »

We've a flueless gas fire in our new house and the vent is a core drill type one, with just a pipe in the wall and a louvered vent on the outside...

Prob with this tho, is the front of our house faces North and there is an almost constant blast of icy cold air flowing into our front room...

Currently it's blocked with a pillow and we don't light the fire, but I fell there must be a better option...?

Is there any core drill type vents that reduce/remove the draft and if so, which is best...?

Cheers in advance

Alrite Drongo, what about leaving whats already installed, and seeing if anyone could knock you up a wee flashing that would screw onto the front of the house, it would deflect the wind but still let any fumes escape. I had this problem with a vent in my last apartment and it sorted it.

Good question, I have the same problem.  Fortunately it isn't in our family room, but it does put me off going into the other room.  The draft is fierce.

Drongo, I'd be nervous about blocking the vent up.  Even if you weren't using the appliance you could still be unfortunate even to get a leak.

just fit either an internal or external vent that can be closed according to the weather conditions , internal wud be more convenient. good luck, any type of fire be it gas or wood burning is always open to the external influences , but with gas you are best to consult with building regs.
