Hand warmer
« on: December 22, 2011 »

Showed some of you folk this recently at the Christmas camp, but i thought i'd pass the idea onto some of you guy's that were not there. If like me you're always taking your gloves off to take photo's,check bearnings,or search for stuff, this little hand warmer is the job.I bought this about five years ago on EBAY for about a fiver. It's a lighter fluid based burner that when filled burns for about 48 hours, which you should get about 5 fills from the average fluid can which cost around 3 quid.

here's the three main parts, the lid,the burner which contain's a fibre that burns the fuel, and the fuel container, simply connect the burner to the fuel container and light before blowing out the naked flame, unseen the fibre will still be burning and will soon heat the whole hand warmer.

It's always better to use a better quality fluid,i've found Swan fluid to burn far longer than other brands, usally about 48-52 hours on one fill, there nothing better to put you're hands onto one of these on a ice-cold morning. Here's a link to the item on Ebay

Couldn't think of what to buy my dad for Christmas and Oisin remembered this from the Christmas camp. There is now one wrapped up under the tree for my dad. Its a good present for guys that your puzzled what to buy for and I also wouldn't mind one myself now too.

Merry Christmas. :)

I had something similar when i was a kid, it burnt a sort of coal stick rather than lighter fuel, i might even still have it in the attic!

I actually bought a used Zippo one from another forum; arrived yesterday  ;D

I'm very impressed so far. There's also a Whitby version; I believe both the Zippo and Whitby one's are made at the same place, Peacock Handwarmers.

My partner has a pair of shooting gloves which prove very handy.  The first two fingers and the thumb can fold back to reveal those fingers for twiddling with things without the need to take off the gloves.  We still carry handwarmers though!  ;)
