Hi all,

Just sending a quick note re the next Salt Island Bothy Clean up Day on Sat Oct 15th

Salt Island Bothy is located on Strangford Lough Canoe Trail just south of Killyleagh. It is a bunkhouse which provides basic accommodation for canoeists and was restored in June 2008.

The Bothy is owned and managed by The National Trust and provides a great outdoor recreation facility for visiting and local canoeists alike.

The bothy only cost £50 per night for exclusive use so it is not designed as a money making initiative.
If you have used the bothy's facilities over the past few years then this is your chance to give something back.
Join the National Trust and fellow canoeists for a clean up day. Either paddle your own way out to the island or take the National Trust boat which will leave from Killyleagh Yacht at 10.30 a.m.

A wet and windy day ddin't deter the volunteers, some traveled a fair old distance to help out
As a result, the bothy is now spotless the forest has been thinned considerably and we dug a test pond on the southern side of the island

Thanks to the North coast kayak club , Belfast kayak club and the National Trust volunteers

Please note that the water supply to the island has been cut  , the National trust are trying to find where the pipe has been severed  , if anyones thinking of booking the bothy they'd be advised to check if the waters back on or not

Paul Swail posted on the Facebook page wanting to know if anyone had found a Berghaus jacket and trousers in a blue barrel at the cleanup?
