The device sells in Japan for around $300 and is being marketed to people affected by the March earthquake and tsunami. The company is planning to expand to developing world countries with spotty energy grids.
 
I am excited about their potential to do a lot of good around the world, but I would also love to have one of these for camping. Solar is hard to deploy when you're on the move and isn't super effective at small sizes. The perfect charger would work during down time — night time.

At $300 I think there are cheaper options, like a battery charger/booster, your not planning on camping out that long are you? To be honest it's a nice idea, but a tipper ware box with spare batteries for one of those mobile phone chargers will have to do me instead.

If you remember to charr your phone before you go out, turn off all un necessary apps roaming etc battery should last you a good couple of days, and if you turn off the phone altogether and only turn it on when you need it, well who knows.....

But am looking forward to Red Leader bringing one for the tunes at the weekend, now that is essential. ;D
