Hello NI Wild
« on: April 08, 2011 »

Hi guys,
I am from Newtownabbey and my interests are fishing, photography and something that had been put on the back boiler for a few years is roughing it! Yes camping which is why I have joined.

Up until now I have used pay campsites with all the amenities but I would like to find through NI Wild members suitable areas to pitch, with emphasis on Coastal areas where I could take in fishing from the rocks.

Thanks & looking forward to your replies

Derek

Welcome Derek. Where's good for shore fishing from the rocks? We did a bit last year around Crawfordsburn but it was a pain to get down to.

Welcome to the forum Derek!  I'm not quite sure about locations for camping close to the shore, but if you were discreet you might be able to get away with pitching at the Orlock outside Groomsport.  There is a big field there and popular rocks for fishing off a stone throw away.

thanks for the welcomes guys. I've fished Orlock before suspectmonkey, during my early days while staying in a caravan on the Windsor site. I might give that a go for pitching ;-)

I think Donegal might be your place for wild camping on or near beaches. The other source of camping spots are pubs and youth hostels, especially pubs who will let you pitch in exchange for your custom for either food or beer! There are a few basic campsites in Donegal too, hardly more than a field with a tap but at least you'd be safe there. I'm putting together a list of them for my Road Trip in July. I don't mind sharing it, once it's complete.
