Just wondering if anyone else was planning on getting one of Bear Grylls new ultimate knife freom Gerber.  Theyare available from march some time, my lovely missus has promised me one as I have been a good boy recently.

It's not the sort of thing I would use. I'm not a fan of half serated/half standard grind knives anyway. The handle shape and finger guard wouldn't suit me at all, Gerber have a bit of bad Rep for their steel quality and overall I just don't like the look of it. But, it's horses for courses and someone else may like it.

they're $45

I'm not one of those knife geeks, but that one looks a bit cheap and gimmicky to be a proper usable 'survival' knife.  the reviews aren't great either.

There was a view done on that knife though I can't remember on what site. The guy who did it broke the handle quite easily. It is horses for courses as cg has said it all depends on what u want it for.

Would go for the BearGrylls knife apart from the fact that it has BG imprinted on the side of it and I would not promote that idiot ever.

I think you're judging him by his badly edited TV programmes - and maybe the bad press he got a while back.  In his books he gets to express himself for more than 25 seconds at a time and I think he comes across much more thoughtful and sensible.
