Recommended Places to Stay in NI (with beds!)
« on: February 14, 2011 »

I'm pondering a night or two away with the family.

Can anyone recommend anywhere - hotel, guesthouse, self catering are all good, just needs to be family friendly?

Camping is out for this one, lets just say private bathroom is 100% required :)

Well if your going plush it'll just have to be the Slieve Donard, just check out the view from the pool  ;D

I stayed a night in the Slieve Donard last year after the iPlod and Mrs Redleader was really disappointed her breakfast toast was burned and doesn't fancy going back. Just goes to show, sometimes it's the little things that make all the difference!

The Culloden is within taxi distance so there's no point.

when we stayed there my wife slept in and missed breakfast  :'(

Meelmore Lodge Hostel has a large en-suite family room, also plenty of cottages around the Mournes, would be lovely in the snow with a roaring log fire, i've always fancy doing a weekend at Tory Bush, Millars Close or Mourne Cottages, and the archery centre is only round the corner too (and a nice pub  ;) )

Kat and I stayed in a lovely farmhouse B&B not far from Enniskillen.  It's called Abocurragh.  Beautiful location and extremely well kept B&B.  Great location for visiting Marble Arch caves, Florence Court, Castle Coole and Crom.

Speaking of which, National Trust have holiday cottages at Crom which look lovely.  Remember seeing them when we were at Crom for the day.  Not sure about prices, but you can find out more about them here.

If you are looking affordable and friendly, you could do worse than Sheep Island View Hostel in Ballintoy.  There is a play park/Shop/Pub in the village and you are right at one end of the best stretch of the Causeway Coastal Walk.

Westville in Enniskillen is a beautiful hotel and a very reasonable price. Sarah and I have stayed there a load of times.

I would second the holiday cottages in Crom. Know lots of people who stay there and go back year on year. Great for kids, lots of open space/woodland to run around in. Can rent canoes there as well, I think. And lots of stunning walking close by.
