Favourite walk
« on: August 29, 2010 »

If you had/could chose your favourite route around the mournes etc where would it be , I was asked this today in work , Binnian Lamagan cove to beg down Annalong valley would be one of mine or the walk around Melmore head in Donegal would be another .

Interesting to read this since a friend was over earlier and we had the map out looking at this very route.  Does the part from Slieve Beg down the valley not feel long?

Not to me no ;D I like the fact I can take my shoes off and walk most of the way along valley in my bare feet in the peaty track . Also being able to look up at what I have just walked enjoyable.

Interesting question. I don't have a favourite as such but I really hate Hares Gap and the Glen River path from the Ice House up. Think I need to do a bit more "walking" rather than just knocking peaks off like it's a competition.

My Fav has to be Up Bloody Bridge River up Donard the down to Donard Forest. I am still to do many walks in the mournes but that has been my fav so far.

I will answer this question after Saturdays route :)  I actually quite enjoy Binnian, so I'm hoping that Binnian > Lamagan > Cove > Beg section will float my boat!

It's an easy trap to fall into, climbing something just because you haven't before, or moving on too quick and forgetting to take in the experience.

An enjoyable walk was Trassey > Ott > Loughshanagh > Meelbeg > Meelmore> Bernagh > Trassey

Wouldn't suit someone who hates Hares Gap though ;)

My favourite is one that takes me to the far ends of anywhere away from every fooker, so I can pitch up and get a brew on without anyone bothering you at all.

I couldn't think of a favourite walk, i like exploring so like to go somewhere i haven't been before, or if i have been there i like to try a different route (usually talks me longer cutting across bog or heather  :'( ) also i often change my mind which mountain to do at the very last minute (easy to do that in the mournes) dependant on cloud height, cloud cover, wind direction and maybe even time of day (no point in walking up a hill in the shade when the hill next door is nice and sunny  ;D )

e.g.

but i hate walking on those gravelly paths like the trassey track  >:(

Anyone want to give me an estimate of how long this walk would take?  Starting and finishing in Carrick Little.  Not going hard at it but not a dilly dally either.
