Used my gelert scramble today not the best of straps or buckles etc but it done the job and I think I will be buying a more substantial one in the future . Walked from carrick little binnian to brandy pad and had drunk 2l by beg . I then was using my sig bottles as I had sucked bladder dry . Only things I can say is the taste is like licking a surcical swab it was vile but sucking on mints while drinking took the edge of the taste . Pack was light and being 22l I did not carry have the stuff I never use. Handy part was bladder was in seperate compartment so I had no worries about stuffing keys etc into backpack

Not bad bit of kit esp. if it comes with the bladder. This one?

I'm told that the plastic taste goes away after a while...some stuff here about removing the taste.

I gave mine a good rinsing and then left it overnight with some purification tabs in. Took a few uses but eventually it didn't taste the water.

I'm surprised there is a bad taste from the bladder.  The Source packs I've used have never caused any change to the taste of the water.  They do advertise being "taste free" and I'd say this is pretty justified.

I actually use a Source rucksack as well.  I've no idea the spec of it, as they dont seem to sell it any more, but I got it for a bargain price a good few years ago and I've used it regularly for mountain biking and hiking.  Best of all it has the hydration sleeve on the outside of the pack, so you can easily get the bladder in/out without having to empty the contents of your rucksack.  I guess it pays to buy a rucksack made by the people who make the bladders as they think about the design a bit more carefully.  That said, Jonno did give me a slagging for the pack having a "pen organiser" on the inside :P

Looking at the Source website they dont seem to sell the same range of packs any more.  There are some here on their online store though.  Camelback are the other renowned name, but I always thought the Source kit was better value for money and actually better designed.

I think some of the Sigg fans are right though - if you have a rucksack with side pockets that you can easily get a bottle into and out of then they are just as handy as using a bladder.  I used a 1 litre Sigg for the West Highland Way as my Golite rucksack has really good side pockets which were a lot handier than the internal bladder sleeve.  Also, when we stopped for lunch at a bar along the way it was a easier to ask the bar staff to fill up my Sigg than getting them to fiddle around with a hydration pouch!

maybe I was unlucky or I prob did not rinse it out enough but the taste was very bad especially when it was nearly empty. I filled it night before and kept it in fridge would this of caused it . Another handy thing with the rucksack it has a clip inside which I used for the car keys as I always panic 20 min or so about what pocket I put them in .

Little bit of Column A, little bit of Column B.  ;D

That's what I loved about the WHW: pubs/towns where located halfway through the day on every day...perfect for lunch stops (except towards the end where you walk through a forest, who's name escapes me).

Same here, but I could be the same, I just rinsed my Camelback out with straight water before I used it...(keeping it in the fridge seems to be good advice...must take mine down off the garage wall when I get home  ::))
