Glenn B put me in the notion of having another go at Pike fishing with his thread "Pike oh yes"

Saturday past was a washout but Sunday was just perfect for a spot of fishing and a picnic with the kids.  I got the car all packed up and defrosted a mackerel, that I had caught during the summer in Strangford Lough, and off we went to Killinchy.

Equipment

12' Sea Fishing Rod and Reel with 25lb line,
Wire Pike Trace with 2 triple hooks,
Float and Sinker,
Forceps for hook removal,
Frozen Mackerel,
Bag of Snacks,
Patience.

As usual, here's a few photos and I've even thrown in a short video for you too:

The Battle Ground

Hacker the Dog

The kids humouring Dad on another one of his random hobbies

Our catch of the Day... What a whopper  :o

Only Messin... This is what we caught:

Mr Pike was admired for a few minutes then released.

Video of him being landed can be seen here:

Fair play to you... Takes alot of skill to land a pike. I've been fishing several times with by bros to catch up and caught nothing, usually I'm just happy enough to enjoy the craic and relax
If you're thinking... "wait this might be a bit dangerous".... you're probably on the way to a good adventure!

Cheers Rusty... I'm a complete novice myself and was only there for a bit of craic and to relax, although relaxing is not always possible with three kids there asking every 5 minutes why you haven't caught anything yet  >:(

Hopefully you'll have a bit of luck soon...  If not, give me a shout and I'll take you to the lake that I go too and see if we can get you your first.
