Cut various evil eye shapes into the tubes from inside toilet rolls
Pin to trees and place glowsticks inside
Glowing eyes all over the forest

I like this idea. Some general spooky decorating. I think we should give a chicken on a spit another whirl too. If there's enough peeps maybe a strung leg of lamb too.

Usually everyone organises all their own stuff. We sometimes do camps where we cook together like at Xmas but not this weekend I don't think. That's not to say there isn't plenty of sharing, just pack for self sufficiency and see what happens.

I could be tempted into spit roasting something, not that that's been successful in the past  ::)  If anyone has any tips they's be much appreciated!

So what's the time and dates for this?

I'll need to check the schedule as the misus may already have plans for us.

It's that time of the year when you don't want to cross a woman... can be a real WITCH!!!!

HAHAHA...  ;D

Is anyone aiming to arrive early? Since there will be a large group i'm thinking of turning up early and bringing a bow saw to get a good wood stack cut if anyone wants to join me?

I'll probably aim to be there early afternoon. Although when someone's offering to gather wood I like to plan to be there just right after they've finished ;) :)

There's a detailed description on how to get there here:

Not sure what time, people usually drift up at all different times, I'll probably be aiming for after lunch-ish.

RedLeader,
Perfect Thanks for the info.....

Don't let the clearing where I've put a blue "X" fool you as your coming up the path.  It's easy to think that the forest has ended and that you've gone too far.  The clearing is made up of dead, charred trees.  Keep on going past it and you will come across healthy forest again and that is where the campsite is located.

Just yourself and whatever gear you need to be safe, comfortable and self sufficient for the night, bearing in mind it's October and has the potential to be cold and wet (although it fingers crossed it'll be mild and dry!). If you want to throw in something Halloween themed as a decoration, food or costume then fire away but it's by no means mandatory.

If anyone has any specific fun ideas post here or PM me.

Anyone who's got a tarp and a few pieces of paracord throw them in your pack: I'm bringing a few an might make a camp a bit more fun in the event it starts raining.... Plus there's loads of mileage out of showing and being shown different tarp set ups: it's the Lego of the outdoors!

I'll be bringing my 3x3 DD tarp just for tent use anyway, but I might have an old pve groundsheet tarp still about. If I can find it then i'll bring it with me and a rol of cord if you wanted to just makeup a roofed area or such.

Been pondering this the last three days, will be my first time for this style of camp so I'm lost. Used to just carrying dry food to be made with water later, not this luxury sit around a big fire type.

Was gonna make a 3piece dinner box and super chip myself I'm gonna take the bandit out for a spin through the mournes then up to camp before dark.

If there are any other bikers who fancy it pm me and we can meet up for a run.

Ditch the dried food this time and spoil yourself... Its the perfect opportunity!  We've had Steak, Lobster, leg's of Lamb, Spatchcock Chicken, Haggis, Rabbit, Full Christmas Dinners... In fact if it used to breathe we've probably eaten it at a forest camp  ;)

Ohhhhh... A fellow Bandit biker  :o  I've my daughter coming with me so no bike for me this time but I'm jealous.  I've brought the bike to Annalong before for a camp.  It's a brilliant feeling getting up the next morning and racing home, the long way, through the mountains.

This is my bike... I think we need to start a new section for Bike Camping on here:

Both simple and both Yum... You've got me considering a Gammon too.  The butchers in ASDA, can't remember the name of them, do an awesome vacuum packed one with a pineapple on top which is big enough to choke a horse!

See you all there.

Just a quick thought as i'm sure some folk will be planning some spooky shenanigans (not me of course). But is there anyone coming who perhaps scares very easily, wouldn't appreciate nutters making them jump, or bringing along younger children who could have to deal with a week of nightmares after?

Main reason for asking is if anyone like that could perhaps wear a head torch or some other silly way of a visual aid that say "don't jump out on me please" without giving the game away for those who don't mind. Anyone any thoughts on it or is it a case of "you come, your fair game"?

There's never been anything requiring a sudden change of underwear before but, there's a first time for everything I suppose  ;)

It is a family camp and we're not expecting anything scarier than the Ghost Train at Barry's lol

Dowser that's a lovely bike there, I love my wee bandit, she is great as a first time bike.  Just got my test this year after years of talking about it.

This will be the first time I've camped with her have been away on weekends and it's great just bungee the rucksack to the back seat and off you go.

I'm planning to go round the coast, over the strangford ferry then up to Newcastle.  Home via the mountains next day.

Here is Rihanna,

Yeah you guys might need a safety code of some sort... Someone could jump out and
Frighten someone, get an axe between the ears out of fright and end up buried in
Annalong Wood  ;D ....

Enjoy guys not able to go as work conspired against me again but until I win the lottery or have the stones to apply for DLA I'll just have to keep at it ;)

Or maybe this is just a rouse and I'm gonna freak you guys out from afar on the night :)

Just got word that my kids are coming over this weekend and I will not be able to make this. Gutted that I can't make it, was planning on heading into the hills tonight, all packed and ready to go. All I can say is have a great weekend hope to meet up with some peeps soon. I am in Portstewart and if anyone is heading out let me know and I will be happy to try and catch up. I noticed there are a couple of newbies to the site (like me) from Limavady, if you feel like a Binevenagh, Springwell or the like trip in the next few weeks give me a shout.

Once again sorry I can't make this and have yourselves a good time.

I was thinking early on some noodles to keep me going with a big feed of steak later on. Just two steaks tho, my usual half dozen just gets expensive sometimes ;-)

I'll be bringing the reactor for easy brews too :)

What sort of noodles do you go for? I was just thinking that where there's water and easy boiling it makes sense to throw some noodles in the pack in case of hunger. They weigh next to nothing and are tasty and full of energy.

Usually I bring a pot noodle for the first bite, and super noodles to eat out of the pot afterward if I get peckish later on. Goes well with some dried meat to chuck in with it. The pot noodle pot saves me crapping up a perfectly good bowl too.
Im bringing a water carrier to make bringing water over from the river that wee bit handier, suspended from tree with a guyline / paracord / that roll of string dowser stashed and we literally have water on tap. Wee tap on it, quite a novelty lol

Genius. I'm a big Super Noodle fan myself. They're tasty and super easy to make, though like you say, the pot takes a bit of cleaning without decent running water. I can't get behind Pot Noodles though. They taste great at the time but I'm usually still tasting them a few hours later :)

"We Donated 2,000,000 dollars to you
Please contact:
Name: Gloria Mackenzie.
Email: gcmackenzie84@rogers.com
Regard,
Dale Penrod"

So that's roughly two million packs of noodles then, may need a hand with them.  :D

Some of us are going to take the kids for a wander up to Percy Bysshe Caves before Annalong Wood on Saturday. It's only up the Annalong Valley from the wood anyway. The weather is a bit variable and we don't want to be monkeying around in the dark so we're intending to leave Carrick Plant Hire Car Park at 1pm ish. Anyone who wants to come along is most welcome.

Awesome Camp everybody... As always, great meeting the new folk and having a laugh around the fire till the wee small hours. Rain stopped play about 3am but it was probably just as well cause we've no sense to take ourselves off to bed otherwise  ;)

I arrived at the top of the lane about 1pm but the heavens opened and I made an executive decision to stay in the car till the worst of it passed.  My daughter and I sat and played Xee-Osees and Hangman on the steamy windows for the best part of an hour but I'm so glad we did as it meant we were arriving at the campsite with dry gear.

After a quick pitch of my tarp and sleeping kit, for my daughters first Bivvy, a few of us set off to find the Percy Bysshe caves before the sun set.  It's a really handy hike up, which helps build an appetite, and after a bit of searching we found the entrance.  Well worth a look if you've never been and there was even talk of arranging a camp for the brave were we overnight in the second chamber.

Anyways, enough waffle from me... Here's a few photos from last night:

I only managed one photo but it is of the V shaped branch with croissant attached.  I really was impressed with the cooking going on. (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/10/28/2a7ypa2a.jpg)

That was a cracking night with great company again, good to see some new faces and catch up with everyone. The lights around the camp looked fantastic and added to the atmosphere, enjoyed it immensely.

Sorry I missed it, although I was somewhat relieved that I didn't have a hangover today as I ended up walking with a bronze group from Kilbroney to Leitrim Lodge.
A lot of head shaking was done today and having a heavy head wouldn't have helped!

Great stuff guys, that was another great camp. The weather was terrible on Sat afternoon but it brightened up nicely right when we needed it too and we'd a nice relaxing night round the fire. My first time at Percy Bysshe caves too, they were pretty cool (once we found them). I'd be keen to go back and explore a bit further.

Excellent photos Redleader... I totally forgot to take any photos on our way up to the caves and was kicking myself when I uploaded them to the computer at home and had one cave shot!  You've got some great shots there and I even make an appearance in a few  :)

Yes Folks that looked like fun.
Was hoping to make it this year, and my daughter was all picture no sound for a day or two because of it, but had to go to Scotland for a training course.
I'll make it to one of these gatherings yet.

Was gonna make a 3piece dinner box and super chip myself I'm gonna take the bandit out for a spin through the mournes then up to camp before dark.

If there are any other bikers who fancy it pm me and we can meet up for a run.

Hi Claire.

I was having a look to see if there were any photos of this night out (Missed it - training in aberdoom) and spotted the photo of your bike :)
