Title: Quick Overnighter - New Years Day
Post by: RedLeader on December 28, 2011
My reliability has been somewhat suspect recently but I'm going to try for an overnighter from 1-2nd Jan which is Sun/Mon. Monday is my birthday and this seems a great way to celebrate, after all, you're only 25 once!

Not sure what the plan is, I have a hankering for a wildcamp somewhere a bit higher up but I could also be persuaded into a few beers round the fire.

As usual i can't make it but have a good one. Once we get the babys sleeping through the nite i'll be back on the trails :D

Happy birthday mate you'll need a hand carrying all 40 of those candles to the camp ;D

i will be doing one of the following:

1. camping on summit 31st Dec
2. walking up for the new year (leave bloody bridge about 10pm) and coming straight down again
3. walking up early morning on 1st to see the dawn (not sure what time i'd have to start at)
4. sitting by the fire at home with a case of magners on 31st, then join redleader for the birthday bash on 1st jan

option 4 currently looking very appealing  :)

Walking back towards the Glen River there was a big fallen tree right across the path. Scary enough!

oh that one, i passed it the night before so it didn't come down our night, there were also 2 more down between 3rd bridge and quarry, the fallen trees don't bother me, its the ones that are still standing i worry about  ;D

We thought it hadn't been there the night before, must have been wrong.

Just wondering, when you say you passed it the night before, do you mean on your way to the camp.  I arrived at camp at 17:20 and walked the path in the dark.  I was 99.9% certain it wasn't there when I passed through, because I can't remember stepping over anything (and I was sober for the first time over the festive season).

Thinking it may have come down between 17:20 and roughly 21:30 when you arrived.

That's an age old question lol : http://wiki.answers.com/Q/If_a_tree_falls_in_the_forest_and_no_one_is_around_to_hear_it_does_it_make_a_sound

Something tells me Suspect and I did hear it.  Again, I'm fairly sure we turned to each other at one point and said "What was that?" but we were drinking by that time so I can't be sure  :-\

Yep, I definitely remember hearing a loud bang in the distance at one stage of the evening!  Of course it could have just been RedLeader trying to sit down on a log beside the fire ;D

Man I'm taking some grief over that, just my luck that Landy "paparazzi" Liam was on hand to take a well timed snap  :P Anyone would think I was the first person to ever fall over  ::)

It was the funniest thing I have seen this year (Ok, we're only three days in) but it will be hard to beat.  It wasn't just the falling over.  It was the sprockling about on your back trying to get up that had me in stitches.  Noticed nobody offered you a helping hand.  All too busy laughing.  I nearly spilt my scotch  ;D

I was briefly rolling around like an upturned crab, I must have had a dodgy Scotch that upset my balance ;)
Now I wish I had sawed through your hammock support on Monday morning when you needed some help getting up :P

There will definitely be a few more camps in February, if not before!!!

Unfortunately this January is going to be a very busy month for me, and unless there is a load of snow to draw me into the hills it will be February before I really get stuck in again.

We have a lot of big ideas for this year, and we will be posting details about all the trips here on the forum, so hopefully you will be able to come along and join us.
