The Bio Lite Stove
« on: April 09, 2010 »

This is a weird one:

With the BioLite Stove you can step off the grid and leave the petrol at home. Whether you’re spending a month in Alaska or a night in the backyard the BioLite stove will quickly and cleanly cook meals using nothing but the underbrush you collect on your journey.

Current Prototype Stove
Boils 1 liter of water in 4 minutes.
Kindles in 2 minutes
Burns twigs, sticks, underbrush, pine cones, pellets, rice husks
Folds for easy packing
7.5” Tall X 4.75” Diameter
Weighs 1lb 10oz

Compact Model Camp Stove
35% smaller than prototype stove
Weighs 15 ounces

The BioLite stove has a fan which adds needed oxygen to the combustion.  Rather than use batteries to run this fan we generate our own power. Using a Thermoelectric Generator (TEG) the stove captures waste heat from the fire and converts it directly to electricity. TEGs, being made of of solid state semiconductor elements, are usually rated for more than 20 years of undiminished service! So as long as your fire’s hot, it’ll keeps on generating power. No batteries, no moving parts, no worries.

What every camping trip needs is a thermoelectric generator ;)
