Great service from Alpkit!
« on: February 11, 2010 »

Just a quick post to big up the guys 'n gals at Alpkit.  Know there are a few Alpkit users on here, but I always think its nice to shout about good service as it can be a bit of a rare commodity these days!

I bought my Skyehigh 600 sleeping bag from Alpkit back in May last year.  It got barely any use over the summer with just a couple of campsite excursions.  When I took it out from the cotton storage bag before the Donard Wood trip I noticed there were two baffles on the bottom of the bag that were totally flat.  Was hoping they had just become slightly compressed with storage, but after several attempts to get the sections lofted again they were still flat as a pancake and feeling devoid of any down.

E-mailed Alpkit about it and they got back to me really quickly and asked me to send them a couple of photos so they could decide whether or not the bag would need returned.  They checked the photos quickly and encouraged me to send the bag back to them at their Freepost address.  Once they had the bag they quickly contacted me to say that the down had basically shifted into the neighbouring baffles and they could either repair the bag or send me a new one.  Given the choice, I'd obviously prefer a new one, but the only problem was that the Skyehighs are currently out of stock.  So I e-mailed them back to ask if there was any chance of getting a Pipedream instead if I stumped up the extra cash.  No problem at all; quick phone call from the friendly staff to take my card details and a nice new PD400 should be with me tomorrow.

Service doesnt get much better than that IMO.  Really reassuring knowing that you can quickly get in touch with their Support team.  When I compare it to my experience of having to return an item to North Face I remember why I like to stick with more personal UK based companies!

Good to hear of your recommendation. I came across this website a few weeks ago when looking for titanium camping gear, and was impressed with their low prices. I am seriously tempted to get their folding titanium and rosewood chopsticks for £8.5, their KFS set and much more.

The icing on the cake is that my PD400 arrived on Saturday and it is immense.  Really impressed with how small and light it is, and initial bedroom tests (the most scientific of all labs!) suggest that it is plenty toasty :)

The Ti gear sure is tempting... I like the look of their MytiMug!

I really wanted the Ti mug and pot but tbh they feel really weird to the touch. I'll stick with the stainless steel and just deal with the extra grams :D
