just had this reply of OM

It is really a bit early to say what the conditions on the arete will be like in May. Normally May would be a good month to climb as the snow should be clear of the ridge and the climb up onto Ben Nevis. However you should be aware that snow used to lie in the northern corries all year round, not so much the last few years though. However this year winter has been rather harsh since December with loads of snow and it is likely to continue. Also in April we normally get a big dump of snow. I would wait till April before making any final decision and then give yourself several days up in Fort William so that you can select a good weather window to make the ascent. There are escape routes which you should make yourself aware of.

May might still be to early ???

Found a link for a web cam at Ben Nevis. It says it covers the CMD Arete. Not sure if you'd ever be able to see anything on it but it might show something interesting.

I had a quick look at the ferry prices on ferry savers and it works out cheaper just to have everyone in cars.
Larne-troon 21st May @0715 Car and Three adults £238
Same boat with four adults £278
£516/7 works out at £73.70 each.
If we got one more to fill that last space it would be work out at £69 each and If only six go then £79 each.
With two drivers and 4 foot passangers it was workin out at £86 each

You beat me to it ... lol

Anyhow I arrived at the same figures and I think it works out better for the team to travel together.

The price difference when you break down the numbers in the group are pretty negligible so it all looks good , now I just need to speak to a "friend" to see if we can make any more savings.

out of interest regarding the price I just had a wee look on ebay at the crampons and ice axes,

I think I'd rather wear nothing than these! They look like their made from mechano!
