Ben Nevis via CMD arete 21-23 May 2010
« on: January 26, 2010 »

Guys might as well start the planning now who s up for this?

How about an evening boat on a Friday travelling to Fort william/Glencoe area getting base camp set up for an early start on the Saturday Morning. Spending the Saturday on the Mountain and expolring the area around it. Camp again on the Saturday nite and get a Boat home on Sunday afternoon.

Summary
For experienced, fit walkers who do not mind easy scrambling but are not climbers, this is the finest way to climb Ben Nevis. This is a truly spectacular route incorporating two Munros. It will live long in the memory and does true justice to the mountain.

Terrain
Good mountain paths for the approach and descent. The climb up Carn Mor Dearg is pathless and extremely steep and tiring, whereas the traverse of the arete is an easy but long, airy and dramatic scramble.

Distance
19km/11.75 miles

Time
10 - 12 hours

Ascent
1625m

Summits climbed
Munroes-Carn Mor Dearg, Ben Nevis

It's a cracking route! The boulders on the far side are a thigh killer though  ;D Best done when there is no ice left unless you have crampons.
