The 84km Challenge
« on: December 04, 2009 »

Quote
In December my brother and I took part in the howies bivvy bag challenge. It was the first time either of us had walked 30 miles with heavy backpacks or slept in a bivvy bag. Shockingly, instead of putting us off for life we actually discovered it was fantastic!

So here we are, getting restless, wanting to do it again but this time we want to do more. We want to push it a bit further, make it a bit harder and enjoy another adventure.

We also think that there are a lot of people out there who enjoy exploring our stunning countryside, who love wild-camping (or maybe want to give it a go!) and who want a challenge that is just a little bit tougher!

The plan is for you to document your attempt, take lots of photos, write a diary or create a short film then send it to us so we can publish it on the blog and pick our favourites.

Want to raise money for charity? This is a great excuse to raise money for your favourite cause. Let us know who you are planning to raise it for so we can share it on the blog.

Lets do it!

In mate, what charity? where we gonna do it? Dont construe this as blasphemey or anything but it might be fun to go somewhere other than the mournes!  ;D a costal bivy would be nice, or down south somewhere, plus its warmer there.

I'd love a coastal bivvy. Every now and again it's nice to have a good walk to somewhere that isn't uphill all the bleedin' way :)

Good question mate. I was lookin at the ulster way website there has a few sections that look pretty good, i'm sure we could string a few together and add/subtract a few k's as required. Any one got any ideas? A little trip down south would be nice or else get the ferry over to scotland and do it in the highlands. Imagine a bivy on top of ben nevis!

Route info:

Map here:

I'd really like to do a 2 day hike of 30-40 miles (on the goddamn flat) with a camp inbetween as a tester for something more complex next year. The Lecale sounds ideal. Once I see if I can do that then I'd be game to try something "racier"!

I was just going to walk it for the craic rather than for the bivvy challenge. For the Bivvy Challenge we need to do 52 miles and stay out 2 nights.
