Sperrins & Killeter Walking Festival
« on: June 27, 2014 »

Not to be outdone by big city folk and the Mournes, there is also the Sperrins walking festival this month, tied in with the Killeter festival in August.

Sperrins runs 19th & 20th July.

Head for the Hills this summer and discover the epic beauty on our doorstep as part of the Sperrins and Killeter Walking Festival.

During July and August, walkers of all ages and abilities have the chance to get outside and explore the beauty, history and heritage of the Sperrins and Killeter regions. Walks are available at a variety of levels including easy strolls (perfect for families and budding nature photographers), moderate treks, challenging hill walks and extreme hikes across some of the most dazzling landscapes in the country.

So whether you’re looking to get active, enjoy a family day out, unlock the hidden gems of the region or even raise money for your favourite charity, the Sperrins and Killeter Walking Festival provides the perfect opportunity to get outside and explore.

Far and Wild has been contracted as the delivery agent for Sperrins and Killeter Walking Festivals 2014. As a community interest company, Far and Wild aims to help communities make the best sustainable use out of their recreational resources.

Having helped deliver Sperrins Walking Festival in 2012 and 2013, the company has harnessed the best of local guides and walk leaders living in the Sperrins to deliver the Festival. This year local guides will compliment mountain leaders to lead walks in both Festivals and bring a home-grown flavour to the festivities. Happy hiking!

I've contacted Lawrence from Far & Wild about the format and all the walks are guided groups led by certified mountain folks. The exception to the rule being the extreme walk on the Sunday which is a prelaid route to follow with marshals along the way at the waypoints.

Far too many things I want to do this month and so little time. Had hoped to get up to the Mournes for a gentle two day circuit of the wall, but seeing the extreme walk here too means something is going to have to be dropped.... Hard choices. ???
