Any mad men on here?
« on: September 01, 2009 »

I'm looking for someone who wants to go down a swollen river in my boat with me.

The White Water River at the foot of the Mournes a few miles west of Kilkeel is swollen and there are some fun looking rapids, anyone game for joining me in my inflatable boat?

I was down today with my brother having a look today, where it is usually 1' deep it is now close to 4', I went in for an dip and ended up 50yrds downstream within 20 seconds.

So, I have the boat at my caravan, 5 seat inflatable and would be looking 2 or 3 people with life jackets/helmets, wetsuit and a paddle with some means of transport and preferably some experience or balls or someone who's as crazy as me because I don't want liability for anyone who falls over and gets swept downstream like I did.

Well I'm sure there's somewhere we could get hold of a life jacket, helmet and paddle for a day.

I'll try Mike the Bike in Ards tomorrow because I'm trying to get a helmet.

Any other takers?

I'll let you know if I can get safety gear sorted and we can split the cost, some time within the next few weeks would probably be best, I wish I'd taken photos of the water.

Last summer my bro, me and a mate went down in the boat right to the sea when it was shallow and slow flowing and it was relaxing, it looks really exciting now.

Don't think I fancy it at the mo but I have 2 plastic open canoe paddles and 2 personal flotation devices that people could borrow. I'd probably try and come watch.

My friend, his dog and i went down shaws bridge in a canoe, and ended up going down like a submarine. I had to drive from belfast to glengormley in my boxers, to be honest it was the coldest water ive ever went in. But all said and done it was a lot of fun  ;D

Sounds good, I could reward you with beer.
