HI EVERYBODY !
« on: January 08, 2014 »

Hello there.
My name is Rob, I'm 39 and I live on the Ards peninsula. I am a chef and have been for over 25 yrs (sigh  :(). I am married and have 2 kids, boy and a girl. I've been doing a lot of caravaning the last decade and a lot of walking, only really got into mountain hiking this last year now that my son is old enough to go with me. We've been camping a few times too and we're looking to do some wild camping this summer and my sons new year resolution is to climb at least 4 summits this year and to wild camp in the Mournes. Was recommended to this site by my barber of all people. Glad I've found it! Look forward to swopping stories, gaining knowledge and hopefully meeting up with some of you.

Welcome Rob, it'll be good to have a chef around, can't wait til the next chrismas camp   ;D  The kids will love the wild camping, even my wee girl (who hates doing anything energic) will suffer the long walk in for marshmallow on a stick by the fire.

Thanks lads, I'm really looking forward to this year, lots of climbs and camping hopefully, not sure about staying at donard Forrest in the summer if there will be a lot of kids getting drunk, my boy is only 7 and I wouldn't want to scare him but we'll see what happens. First walk of the year is donard on Saturday. Can't wait  :)

Welcome Rob, would be nice to have a chef around the campfire, maybe you could help us get some cooking variety beyond the mountains of meat we usually eat  8)

If you want to do a wild camp and 4 summits then have a wander up the Annalong Valley. Annalong Wood is very handy for new wild camping (secure parking at Carrick Plant Hire on the lane up) and it's surrounded by accessible mountains - Binnian / Lamagan / Cove / Beg / Rocky / Donard / Commedagh.

Thanks RedLeader, this looks perfect !! all our walks so far have either been from Trassey car park or Donard park so havent been that  far down the road but will definitely check it out. As for the cooking I would love to help out as long as it doesn't interfere with work, however I am used to cooking with ovens not open fires so you lot will probably put me to shame, but im always a good pair of hands  :)

Hi Rod, welcome to NI Wild.  Cool that the wee lad has his plans set for the year.  Great times to share with the kids.
