There's a new blog up taking a quick look at choosing a head torch. What does everyone think? Please give us any thoughts on anything that might have been missed out, corrections, suggestions or your own opinion on which torch you prefer and we'll amend the article accordingly.

Nice article, for me the ability to recharge while outside is a high priority. Since the purchase of my Petzl Tikka xp core I have that solution all wrapped up. It allows me to carry a battery pack that charges both my phone and torch with a mini usb. While the Tikka xp isn't the birghtest around it did fit my budget, at some stage I will upgrade to one of the higher end Petzl models. But the security of knowing I have plenty of light and a method of charge is a real bonus in the peace of mind department for longer trips.

I often think people get too concerned about brightness, if you know where you are going and it's mainly on a path e.g. Walking to Annalong wood, you only need a basic torch to find your way and the batteries should last longer too. Also the bright torches can be very annoying around the campfire, I try and use my red led for this. However if you are doing cross country or searching for the way home after getting lost, then it's a bright torch you need  :)
