You can just clamber up the ledges to the right of the waterfall, its not difficult although steep in places. If it is icy I would urge caution.

Here's the route up the Black Stairs, the runners take a more direct route, not recommended in the dark, especially for your first time! but even this route is tricky, AVOID IF ICY

Hi Rumble
I might be able to go if I can wriggle out of other commitments.

Fred's waiting on the weather forecast  ;)

Only joking fella, you've seen enough nights, good and bad.  If the weather looked too crap, you'd not be shy to say so.

I actually have promised to do some work for someone on Saturday but I might be able to postpone it.
I reserve the right to cry off at the slightest provocation if the weather is bad - no excuses necessary! ;D

I visited the Mournes on Saturday and on the way down I took a look at the bivvi site. It is easily approached from the wall, in fact there is a faint track that crosses the top of a boulder field and goes almost directly to it. It crosses several streams on steep ground and if the weather remains cold, these may be icy so be careful.
The area around the crag is far too steep but perhaps 100m directly below it, the gradient eases a lot and there are a couple of large boulders. The terrain is slightly boggy but there should be no problem bivvying between the tufts of grass. The area was covered in a light dusting of snow and it was quite cold due to its shady location but if the wind is coming from the west, it is reasonably sheltered.

Hope this helps

Nice work Fred scouting the area... I'm very excited about this mini adventure.

Looking at your photo I would recommend that everybody attending tries to bring a full fire log each... It's gonna be a cold one  :o

Safety and Responsibility Notice
The Bullseye Bivvy is a going to be a difficult trip in which the fickle finger of fate has placed us at 645m on the slopes of Donard. With the recent weather it is likely to be cold and/or wet and/or snowy. If you want to go please be sure you appreciate the potential risks and are very well prepared for all eventualities and understand that you are entirely responsible for yourself.

As ever, everyone going has to read, understand and adhere to the safety and responsibility notice.

;D ;D Made me laugh there.

Do you nutters all have tarps?  I know they have their limitations, particularly in wind, but I can see how they could be useful in a spot of rain.

Might have to creep into Rumblebum's house and cut his tarp in half.   ;) It's huge!
