Hi All,

My name's Andrew and I'm a new Scout leader from Lisburn. I'm a keen hill walker and love camping etc. I would love to gain some skills in Bushwalking and pioneering to enable me to start teaching the Scouts/Explorers these skills.

Thanks

Hey Andrew,
I'm recent newbie on here too, also a new Scout leader in Limavady. Hope to see you sometime at a scout camp or one from here...

I'm very new to the site, I briefly saw it on facebook last week. Is the group/site a group of friends camping together or a professional business of any sort? Are there bushcraft training days etc or is everything just done for fun?

I found it through FB aswell, I don't personally know anyone on here, and as far as I can see it's a group of friendly like minded people who enjoy the outdoors, and arrange some get-togethers. I'm hoping to make some contacts and find some people to get out with. I also think the more we put into the forum the more well find out what there is on offer, such as people with certain skills that they may share.....enjoy...

Sounds good :)

I have to admit, I'm a little anxious to jump in feet first and join a camping party as I don't know anyone or anything other than the most basic of camping skills. That being said, I'd really love to get involved and start to!

So far everyone just seems to be enjoying what they do and are more than happy to have more people get involved. I don't think skill level is an issue only a williness to get stuck in...
That's my take so far....

Welcome Andrew, i'm a Scout Leader too. Megaspud is right, just a group of like minded people who enjoy the outdoors, very few of us (if any  ::) ) are experts in the outdoors so don't be afraid to join us at camp, they are a friendly bunch who just enjoy sitting around the campfire chatting  :) . We don't do a lot in the way of bushcraft but maybe we should, I might bring a big ball of twine to next forest camp and we could start making some furniture.

Could make things more comfy... a nice camp bed or some chairs...some MOD CONs to keeps us amused...

I did pioneering training a couple of weeks ago up at crawfordsburn, I could go all Ray Mears on you and start knocking up a fitted kitchen out of some birch bark and some saplings.

Yeah I was there too, loved the backwoods cooking bit....
I've got an old washing machine drum in the garden ready for taking to the scouts for a bit of a feasting session soon.
I thought the competition camping was awesome as well, the scouts that took part did a really good job with the presentation of the camp site with everything nice and neatly laid out.
Was a good day in all, hope they run a few more event like that even just so we get to have a play about ourselves.

Hi guys you are all very welcome.  We're just a loose collection of people with informal ties should the worst happen and a zombie apocalypse strike   :o

Nah its just an online community with an interest in all things 'outdoorsy'.  Some are walkers, some climbers, some kayakers etc.  While some folks may have been friends before they joined the forum most folk just know each other from chatting on the forum, meeting out on the hill or joining in with a camp and the like.

A couple of the camps like the Halloween one and the Christmas one have become regular, yet informal dates in the calender and are a good way to put a few faces to names.
