Advice on donegal

I'm hoping to head to Donegal for a couple of nights during the summer, I've been looking at hotels but where would you say would be a good area of Donegal to stay in for scenery, walks on a beach , couple of good pubs, any ideas?

Instead of staying in a hotel, I would suggest staying in The Errigal Hostel for a least two or three night. There is a pub within walking distance which might have music, failing that there is The Lakeside Centre (Ionad Cois Locha) http://www.dunleweycentre.com/which has nice music as well. The hostel is near Slieve Errigal and there is lovely views of the Poisen Glen.

Never stayed here http://www.beachhotel.ie/mobile/default.aspx but it gets rave reviews, and that area is great for beaches etc! All of Donegal is fantastic IMO, but then I'm biased!  ;D

 :o  I'm busy every weekend of the summer, not a single day free - thank goodness!

I have a Cicerone book of Irish Coastal Walks, it would give you a few good coastal walks up round that way.

There are two fantastic beaches at Downings and just after Downings   sometimes possible to body board on them but the second one is massive and ideal for a big walk   Also further along Atlantic Drive is Fanad Head lighthouse which is well worth a visit !

I'm taking the misses and don't want to book a nice hotel/ cottage to find out that there's darn all to see around its area, i used to be in donegal loads as a kid but can't remember half the places. ::)

Anywhere round Ardara. Really good. Beach, hill, nature reserve walks. Caves, waterfall, forest parks, ancient monuments. Great area for birdwatching if you're into wildlife at all. Good chip van in middle of town, Charlie's West End Cafe nice too. Only negative is Donegal Buckfast is the Irish variety - rotten.

I stayed in Downings beach hotel in Nov and before that Villa Rose in Ballybofey. Downings is great for romantic walks and drives, pubs are great too.

I'd second downings. Plenty to do all around from walks to getting your feet wet. Glenveigh is worth a visit. Plenty of beaches for those romantic hand in hand walks  ;D. I'd recommend a visit to the Glen bar for some grub also worth taking the road up over the hills by lough salt as the views you get start the trip of in style.
