Eyes
« on: February 20, 2013 »

My eyes water in cold weather and Sunny days.  Using glasses on the bike helps but they sometimes fog up or if its a wet day cant use them.

Anyone else suffer this?  Anything I can do to remedy it? Eyedrops??

Not quite the same, but I do tend to get tortured on sunny days when sweat gets the sun cream running into my eyes.  Once you rub it you've lost the battle.

Not for the eyes but washing up liquid rubbed neat onto and off the inside of the glasses may help stop them fogging, I used it all the time on my bike helmet visor (I think shaving foam works too)

Will try the washing up liquid. I also heard cutting a spud in half and rubbing it on glass helps.

A new test for me one lense washing up liquid, one lense spud!

Are we there yet?

That's really nasty.. i carry saline eye wash pods with me for that very reason. The 5ml pod is ideal for washing out the cream, nice and light and easy to carry mutiple pods in your first aid kit :)

I don't really wear sun cream, which is probably naughty of me but I've never found I need it. My eyes, thankfully have been spared any hill problems, but my nose runs something shocking when I'm out. It can be really, really annoying!

That sounds like an idea, can you get them in a pharmacy?

Update

So today walking to work a chill in the air my eyes are streaming like I am crying.  I went over to the chemist and told them the issue. The give me these eye drops.

I put them in before going out for lunch and not a tear in my eye. So far so good. Racing on Saturday so that will be a bigger test.

How'd the eye drops work out on Sat?
If they're any good, let us know which ones they are. Some days I'm more susceptible than others, but you know if there's a technical descent coming up that's exactly when you can't see a thing  :-\

Hypomellose eye drops.

They must be working because I used the drops over the weekend. Morning and night time. Forgot them on Sunday morning before the race but my eyes weren't as bad as usual. Still a bit teary but I done the race without glasses and could see most of the time.

Also ended up coming 4th due to good time management and a tactical race. The race was against a 5 hour deadline with a mandatory route and optional check points. We ended up missing an optional run in favour of a bigger bike course. Played well as we got enough points to beat some faster teams. Great day for racing.

Well done - was that an enduro event?
Jamie was tweaking his bike in work on Sat, might have been for the same thing.

Cheers, I'll check out those drops. Be good to have incase I need them.
