Anyone been here? know anything about it - In particular where can you access it from? google maps doesn't give away any clues

It contains Soarns Hill within its boundaries.  There are a few comments on mountain views which describe how people have accessed the forest with the intention of summiting Soarn's Hill. 

I haven't been there myself but, only on the edges to the north at Collin Top and Mid Hill.

Hi folks,just a word of caution about Cleggan forest which is part of the Cleggan Lodge estate and so kinda private ground. This area is run as a sporting estate and theres alot of shooting going on at this time of year, both in the forest and some of the open moorland above. The area,including the Forestry Service woodland which extends for miles towards glenariff was also hit pretty hard by the phytothoptera ramorum tree infection a couple of years ago. Its not really any of my business, I just lived and worked up there a few years ago, but Id advise stayin out of the area in the interests of safety and the environment.

Here is a bit of information from a DofE booklet, which refers to the matter of access as pointed out by sawmonkey.  There are of course the other issues of disease already raised.


Access in the Cleggan Forest (2123) / Neills Top (2313)
Glens of Antrim Activity May 1:25 000
Access to the area is restricted, particularly during the shooting season – beginning of
August through to end of January.
· It is possible to access Cleggan Forest via track at 206100 on the Longmore Road
· There is some concern about bulls in the area west of the Cleggan River but the
route over Neills Top should be OK and an alternative is to follow the track.
The game keeper, who is based at Cleggan Lodge (2110), has asked that any groups
intending to be in the general area of Neills Top or Cleggan Forest must contact either of the
following 2 numbers to seek permission and when more specific advice can be given:
Steven Baird (game keeper) – 07752475736 or Joe Taylor – 07718755388.
