ah jonno I think your selling yourself short on this one. Anybody who can summit Slieve Donard in the middle of the night after a sigg of wine will have no bother with this.

Best thing to do is to play it by ear. Anythink could happen between now and sat. Although now the weather and conditions seem perfect (for once) on the day it could be a differnt story.

Bernagh isn't that tough off a nut to crack there is only really 150 odd meter of proper hill to climb.
As for a camp spot the huge torrs will offer plenty off shelter.

You now you want to :P

Jonno you can do it. The first time i saw Berneagh it scared the shit out of me. It put an end to our Mourne wall attempt, i went back with 666_pack a few months later and knocked it off. Was raging at myself for punking out at the sight of it cause its not that hard. You made it to the Hares gap before you can do it.

Will see how it goes later in the week. My knees feel pretty screwed at the moment, I think it might be foolhardy to get too carried away.

Can anyone recommend a rucksack? I'm guessing that 50L or so would suffice but I don't want to be spending too much. The only other thing I have is a Cobra 75 and it seems a bit large.

I would guess most will have phones, who dosen't these days, and I'll prob have a bivi bag stuffed in some corner and as for knives I've aquired some moras for the lads that I'll be bringing to distribute.

The kit lists are probably not that comprehensive and I would say from the posts regarding suggested routes if none of us are posting on the forum by Tues evening I'm sure someone will notify mountain rescue and advise where we had gone  ;).... lol

so Jonno,
how are the knees holding out? Have the lads words of motivation and encouragement fallen on deaf ears?

As regards pack size I can fit all my kit  into a light weight 40ltr pack but I really don't trust its construction (3kg of water rolloing about in there). I could us my issue bergen but that bugger must weigh 3Kg empty. So last night I loaded up 65Ltr and its looking like I'll have to go with it (after spending £80 on a tent i really can't justify a new pack when I have one that is fit for purpose), but my kit list has not changed more space does not = more kit.

Hi Andy,
Those pics have got me really stoked about this If I can even get thta view for 5 mins then it'll see me right to next summer.

good man chris see u at the summit.

I'm in the same boat. Can't really justify more spending at the moment but as it turns out the 75L Cobra is actually same as or lighter than the Berghaus Freeflow 30+8 so I think I'll just take it. Like you said, more space doesn't always equal more weight so I think it will be fine. It's a comfy enough ruck for being 15 years old :D

Knees-wise, they're giving me gyp but I can't work out how serious it is and can't see the medicine man before next Sat so I'll play it by ear. They click alot and feel crampy but not really sore - might just be age or overdoing it these last few weeks. Don't know what to do tbh but I'm definitely not going to push it incase I do any damage!

I think we should all get into this topic on water carrying. Will be key to the weekend too!
