A man may not only play many parts in life, but sometimes even his real character undergoes a change and comforms to his surroundings. Some of the handwriting of the greatest people was bad, and it was not their handwriting made them great, but the thoughts and language they used.

As far as I know, you need to get out to deep sea in a boat to have a chance of catching much other than mackerel on the east coast of northern ireland.  All I've ever caught at harbours has been mackerel, my dad did catch a cod and an octopus on a boat off the coast of kilkeel

chris

yeah sea bass is a deep sea fish, you need to go way out to have a chance of cathing one of those suckers! I've been out on a boat fishing off bangor and all I caught was mackrel, pretty big mackrel, and a seal. But thats another story!

Wolf_Larson

Chris ive been on that very boat, you call the seal sally ??

dunno what its name is all I know is it cost me a fish!

You can catch Sea Bass on Downhill beach, especially just after a big storm. there's flounder, dogfish, pollock, rays etc all along the coast.

Nice one Celt_Ginger thats where ill head when i buy my 8-9 foot spinning rod (travel one) or would i need a beech caster ??

A beach caster would be a better choice as you sometimes need to cast out a good bit and the beach caster has a bit more belly than a spinning rod. There are lighter versions of the beach caster specifically designed for Bass fishing.

Wolf_Larson

Nice one,a lighter verson would be good for traveling also, cheers again

Have you any idea how long the whole trip is going to take you?
If you die with all your parts working your not trying hard enough!

Wolf_Larson

To be honest, i dont realy care how long it will take, the longer the better but like i said im still a year away from it happening, im still trying to work out my route what i need and even what tent i want, but im getting real good help from you all, beech caster lighter version is great advise. After im prepared for the trip i hope how long it takes is the last thing on my mine, i just want to go and take eash day as it comes, as i dont like plans  ;D

If anyone has stayed anywhere on the coast in a tent doing a bit of fishing, i would love to hear about it as it would help me on my planing. Regards Dave
