Want an OS Mapping GPS
« on: November 13, 2012 »

I'd like to replace my Garmin Etrex Vista HCX with a GPS unit that can hold actual OS maps. Does anyone know much about these, I don't want to have to spend too much.

You're right, it's a Vista, I've updated the post. I've never seen anywhere that they can take proper OS maps and I can't find any for sale on the Garmin website. Plus it's pretty old and scratched, is due an upgrade.

I have the TalkyToaster ones on the Garmin I have at the mo but they only have very basic info. I'd like the proper OSNI maps. What Garmin maps do you have, they don't have any decent NI maps listed on their website.

I use the talkytoaster ones in my garmin, only 1:50k, they'll certainley get you home safe but they miss out on many important features such as cliffs  :o and even the rivers aren't marked so not the best for night hiking, they're fine if your just sticking to well trodden routes though.
