First time on Slieve Binnian
« on: September 17, 2012 »

Having never walked in the Mournes before this year (at the age of 39!) i am trying to get a feel of the seven highest peaks with the intention of trying the seven sevens challenge next year. I Have been to the summits of Donard and Comedagh earlier on in the summer so decided it was time to hit Binnian next. On Sunday 2nd September myself, the good wife and 2 dogs arrived at Carrick little car park at 9.30 and headed off to bright sunshine for the top.

heading up the path from the car park, we had great views of the mountains in front of us.

Not sure if this counts as wildlife but this is what we soon came across with Slieve Lamagan in the background

As we followed the wall up we had great views across to Donard with just a wisp of cloud covering the top of it

We took it easy as the wife struggled slightly on the steep bits but eventually got to the top

we then made our way via the back castles and north tor towards the base of Slieve Lamagan and then followed the path to the right to take us back towards the Annalong wood and back to carrick little.

All in all it was a great day out with some fantastic weather and gave me a great view of the inner mournes over Ben Crom dam and reservoir and helped me get an idea of the layout of the seven peaks if i am to tackle the seven sevens next year.

Hi Phil.  I can't see your photos on the forum, I looked on Flickr and there are some lovely shots.  When I put photos up on the forum I usually copy and paste the BB code from Flickr.  You don't have to click the insert image button.  I hope that helps, maybe it is just me that can't see them though?

love the last photo looking back at Lamagan. Great colours in the landscape and an interesting angle on the mountain... never really seen it without Binnian, pretty cool.
