Hey everyone!
« on: July 23, 2012 »

Hi all, my names Sean and im from Belfast. Started trekking last year and am a member of NIYW.
I enjoy getting up the mournes most weekends and am gearing up for the 7x7's next weekend, all being that my ankle is well enough! I climbed Kilimanjaro there a month ago which was amazing and brutal at the same time!

I read LandyLiam's post on summit camping the 7x7's and have been fired up with wanting to do the same!! Though I have very little experience camping. Hopefully I can find some people on here up for the challenge as everyone I know is too sensible to do something like that :D

Great board!
P.s anyone else going for the 7x7's? Would love to hear what routes you have planned!

eeks, is the 7 7s only a week away  :o  must start saving the brownie points (used a lot up last weekend  ::) ) so what route to take this year  ???  depends on whether i'm doing it solo, might bring my son just to watch him suffer  8)  i think i'll do commedagh, bearnagh, meelmore, meelbeg, binnion, lamagan then leave boring old donard til last, that way if i'm wrecked i'll not mind missing it out, but i do want to get them all done this year.

p.s. well done on kilimanjaro, that makes you joing first on our "king of the castle" list  :)

Welcome Sean. Did you take on kilimanjaro for charity or was it with a group?

Thanks guys :)
@Liam - that route seems pretty good I might give it a go, I think the only part im concerned about is getting from meelbeg to ben crom dam without getting lost in fog lol Hopefully there should be a few people about!

@Oisin - it was for childreach international, there was 19 of us, we raised close to 50k for them and we got to meet the kids at the schools where the money goes too which was amazing! The summit climb was horrendous, I ended up doing it alone cause of altitude sickness, I had hallucinations, fluid in building in my lungs, vomiting and a drill going into my brain above my left eye! But it was so worth it :)

That's an amazing amount of money to have raised.

You definitely got some bad side effects from the mountains. Any pictures online we could see?

exactly where i went wrong in the mist last year, when the mist cleared i saw ben crom was on my right intead of my left, added at least half an hour to my time getting back onto course as had to cross that tricky up/down boggy section.

What a trendy, good-looking bunch of young people you all are.  Did many of the group make it up to the top?  I'm sure the memories will live long.

Yer man in the top right of the photo (blue top) should really have emptied the bottle out before leaving the tent.  He needs to drink more water as well. ;)

Welcome to the forum by the way.  There certainly seems to be a good number in the NIYW, I'm sure the craic is good.

I'm in for the 7 7s as well.  Definately fancy getting Donard out of the way first though.  I had a bit of a walk-through a few weeks ago.  If you can get on to the path alongside Ben Crom River you're pretty sorted.  The challenge is finding it in bad weather!

thanks guys! Yeah the NIYW are great craic, the walking *cough* drinking trips are amazeballs! Everyone made it to the top of kili with the exception of one of the girls who didnt make it, she got 3 hours away from the summit but she had an old dancing injury in her knee and it was swollen to the point where she couldnt walk properly so they sent here down.

@whoRya hahaha yeah we amused ourselves on the way up teasing him about how much his nipples stuck out in that blue top, especially when it got cold :P lol
