Hi, I'm Julie and obviously new to the site.  Been walking the mournes for about 18 months on and off and really getting keen. Would love the chance to pick the brains of those of you who have been doing it for ever!

Lol wellll not quite what my first question was gonna be but thank you - and 10/10 for correctly answering that I WILL indeed be 42 on Friday!

My first question was actually going to be about ladies footwear. Any recommendations would be welcome.

I own a pair of Brashers which I love to bits.. It depends what you want to spend. If in doubt go down to Cotswolds and try pairs on.

For me it has to be Salomon. But there's no right or wrong answer. Just set your budget and then go and try on every pair in that budget until you find the ones that suit you. If you're in Belfast I'd recommend going round Jacksons, Tisos and Cotswold. Take your time and try on lots. Then when you buy, wear them round the house for a few days. As long as you don't wear them outside you can always return them if they're not as comfy as they felt in the shop. As a minimum I would say they should have Goretex liner and Vibram (or equivalent) sole.  Enjoy shopping!

I've had a number of pairs of boots from Cotswolds and their service is excellent, they're very patient. However I can never really tell how a boot is going to feel until I've done a few miles, the instore ramp just doesn't seem to cut it. Not Cotswolds fault ofc.

I agree with Samm, I also recommend the Cotswolds at Boucher. Their 'boot guy' spent ages with me and was still working with me after the shop had closed. Not once did he seem annoyed or eager to be shot of this crazy fussy guy who was keeping him back and had tried on about 6 pairs twice  :D

I have a pair of Brashers too, but wasnt sure how they faired in comparison to other brands. I do like them but find them a little heavy and inflexible.

Thanks everyone.  Off to Belfast on Friday to have a good look around.  I'll start on Boucher Road and see how I go.
