Ben Crom & Caves
« on: April 11, 2012 »

Another day out in the Mourne's again today, plan was to hike up Ben Crom, for some reason i'd never climbed it before?Mountain Goat,Fiserfelim& his lady friends,  ;) set off up the Ott trek about 10 am,the sky was clear & the sun was out, after about 20 minutes we reache the stile at the wall.We then followed what i call the Brandy pad around slieveloughshaannon & across the spur that runs off Doan.Crossing the stream we entered bogland hell which had us jumping around the peat bog for nearly an hour until we reache the start of Ben Croms gentle slope.Searching along the the buttress facing Doan we located the cave entrance but decided to stop for lunch on Crom's summit before venturing into the caves, reaching the summit you truly appreciate the views across silent & Ben crom valleys.Having had a long lunch & a few brew on the stove we made our way back down towards the caves, reaching the caves it appears there are two main entrances  with three chambers running running of both, each chambers is lined with what appears to be crusted granite, which is very easy on the knee's & would be great to bivi in.Leaving the caves we made our way back across the valley were we parted company with fisherfelim & the ladies  ;) as harry & myself set off to scale Doan, before heading back down the Ott trek.

Loving DSCN3278. 4th Picture down, captures a nice feel. Again, wish I could have made it.

some superb snaps of a great mountain that I have also managed not to do.  Its def next on the hit list.  Love the video too as the moving images gives a better sense of scale.
Good work!
