Brilliant day on the Mourne's
« on: March 25, 2012 »

Super day on the Mourne's, arriving at the Trassey track at 7 am, on the mountain with harry's brother David, weather was fantastic, give ourselves six hours s to get round & down to Donard car-park which was lots of time. ;D took a good twenty minute break at Hare's gap, then carried on up Slievenglough which after the first wee push from Hare's gap was pretty easy, then onto Slievecorragh wee we crossed over the wall to view the pot of legawherry, with it weather shaped granite pillar.Tough pull up onto Slieve Commedagh summit where we observed some fell runners doing as one of them put it a we 13 miler :P,again after another long break listening to Pink Floyd we made our way down to the Castles Commedagh, somewhere that's always held my fascination.with time to spare we went over the Saddle & down into Newcastle ;D

Yes & No,gaiters help prevent water getting into you're boot, also getting your laces pulled, also useful when crossing streams & as here gore-tex,they are breathabilty

I did that wee walk last weekend with my bro, but instead of heading up hare's veered off at the path and walked up Lough Shannagh from there.

Great stuff. This is one of my favourite quick overnighters too stopping on Commedagh then finishing the next day.

Looks like you got a fantastic day there, there are some great things to see along that route.

Great pics and great movie, John. I was out on Donard on Saturday leading for a group of parents and friend from Donard School, Banbridge and out with the Wee Binnians on Sunday on Slieve Foye, Carlingford. Great weather on both days...
