Slieve Donard Snow
« on: February 10, 2012 »

We took a quick impromptu race up Slieve Donard last night. The weather was pretty foul and we got totally soaked, plus there was a bracing freezing cold wind from about 200m from the summit. The good news is there was plenty of show piled up against the wall, probably a good 3 feet in places. Anyone who fancies a night in a snow hole, this might be your chance!

I've been up the Mournes quite a bit over the past few days. Saturday past I iceskated up Ott path with a heavy mist and sleet, Wednesday I was back up Ott with a group.. Again Misty but with rain and yesterday I climbed Butter with a group of kids lots of rain and mist.. Looking forward to getting a clear day in the hills so that I can enjoy the views..

Bah. I spent the week behind a desk and my only time in the Mournes it was so wet and foggy I couldn't see my own feet. There's nothing like 4 hours ice cold hiking soaking wet.

Better a rainy day in the hills than a sunny one in the office  ;)
