Coleraine is probably better there is bus to Ballycastle Service 172 , takes about an hour and there is one every hour alternating 10 to the hour and 20 to the hour. The Ballymena bus is less regular

wolf>>>Or if you get to ballymena I could probably arrange to lift you as I live there pretty much.
Domino>>> Thanks for the great advice. I may eat my words at some point but I think the wee camp site I've picked is best of all worlds at the minute. Its as close to "half way" as I could get on a site I've actually checked out. plus its near a road for access. That said I could be very wrong and never be asked to find camp again lol. I do like the waterfoot to ballycastle idea but. Is that the way we decided already???

Criagy -> No problem :)

If that is down the Glendun river above the Bryvore Bridge in the wee spur of the slieveanora forest by the road, you should be OK.. but remember the Dun is a spate river, and they planted the trees to stabilize the road from the river. If it rains it could get "interesting" as can be seen by the steepness of the cut the river runs through.I have fished it a couple of times in flood and the water gets to 5-6 feet deep on the bends.  It is also very "sheepy" two large flocks in the area and it has been mild this winter keep an eye out for ticks but then so is the whole route, apart from "Duck Central" which has ducks .... lots and lots of ducks.

If things turn out iffy on the day  if you walk dowstream from the forested bit, about 1km you will come to an old ruined farm house here

That might be servicable, it is on a bit of a rise, near the road and has the old garden with few stones and some low walls if you need them

Love to be be doing it with youse , but I am tackling the glover highlander on paddy's day (second attempt at a 1 day slog)

Yep :) I live up in Coleraine so the north antrim and the sperrins are my stomping ground and a bit of donegal too

Last time I did the moyle was August 2011 (in kilts for charity)  did it in 10.5 hours and the Guinness at the end was one of the best I ever had  :D

This year I have the glove highlander and the dungiven to castlerock section of the ulster way in my sights. Tried to do the glover in one day twice now and ran out of daylight on both occasions as I am not the quickest of walkers

I go down to portrush every week in the summer and every other week in the winter, love the north coast.

10.5 hours sounds good for 26 miles

Have a great and safe journy in highlander and dungiven.

Cant wait to get out with NI WILD also.

Heaps of useful information there Domino....  Thanks for all that.  Re: the camp site, I'd posted some pictures of the Glendun River, but I think Craigy has recce'd another wee campsite elsewhere.

About the direction of walk, again I'm not overly bothered which way we go.  With the area we want to camp in we would have covered more of the walk on day 1 if we started in Ballycastle.  Maybe that helps with some of the more hilly sections on the 2nd day.  On the other hand Domino has suggested other potential sites further north which could suit the other direction.

If anyone else has any ideas on that it's probably best that we have a chat now and make a decision and stick with it so that people can start to think of travel arrangements.

I'm happy to go with whatever Craigy feels since he has been on the ground and had a look around the area.

P.S.  All the best with the Glover Highlander Domino, that's quite some walk.  Hope you get great weather for it.

Will we see you at the Easter camp Lenny?
I'm more than happy to try out other possible sites. give me 6 fig grid refs and sheet number and I'll go hunting. However, many places look great from afar but when your on them they are sodden. The little site I picked is quite dry. Its not 100% level but its ok. Breen wood Is rather close to ballycastle, Much more (or less) than half way. I'm open to ideas. Or will I take lead (and the blame) lol

That section of ulster way sounds like a great challenge!!!
